Why 70% of firms have adopted AI - but only 6% have seen a return on it

Ben Jervis, CMap’s Chief Product Officer, and Tom Rains, CMap’s Product Marketing Manager, explain where AI actually pays off for consulting firms and how leaders of boutiques can make their investment count.
Key Takeaways

The session, at a glance

Most firms have adopted AI, and most of them have nothing to show for it. In this first exclusive look at CMap Chat, Ben & Tom break down the market problem and how CMap Chat is built to address it.

  1. 70% of firms have adopted AI. Only 6% are seeing a measurable return on it, according to Ben Jervis's read of the market.
  2. Every firm runs on two engines: an offering that's unique to it, and operations that look the same at every firm. AI only pays off once it's pointed at the right one.
  3. CMap Chat doesn't train a model on a firm's data. It only touches the operational engine that's already universal, never the offering that makes a firm what it is.

The Five-Minute Read

70% of consulting firms have adopted AI – but only 6% have something to show for it

Every professional services firm is under real pressure to prove they’re using AI well. Ben Jervis, CMap's Chief Product Officer, and Tom Rains, CMap’s Product Marketing Manager, opened CMap Chat's launch with the uncomfortable number behind that pressure: most firms have already adopted AI, and almost none of them are seeing a return on it.

The firms getting real value from AI aren't just using more of it - they're pointing it at the right thing. In the next five minutes, you'll get the three places that distinction matters most, with clips taken straight from the live demo.

Why are so few consulting firms seeing a return on their AI investment?

Roughly 70% of firms have successfully adopted AI in some form. Only about 6% are seeing a measurable return on that investment. Ben attributes this gap to firms pointing AI at the wrong half of their business.

Every firm runs on two engines. The first is a firm's offering: its craft, its methodology, its expertise - the thing only that firm can do and the reason clients actually pay for it. The second is its operations: sales, delivery, finance, HR - the machinery that keeps the firm running. The offering is unique to each firm – but the operations look the same at every firm in the industry.

Day to day, the 70% who've adopted AI without seeing returns are mostly using it as individual contributors: drafting emails, drafting documentation, one person's productivity trick at a time. What's missing is AI applied systematically to the operational engine. It’s the part of the business that's universal enough for a shared platform to solve once, for everyone, rather than firm by firm.

The reason bad results persist even with AI in the mix is that "AI cannot fix a bad process." Broken processes and messy data don't improve because a model is now involved. If the underlying operational engine is dirty or undefined, AI just runs the same problems faster.

“AI cannot fix a bad process.”

Knowing where to point AI is the first half of the answer. The second is who in the firm actually gets to use it once it's pointed there.

What it actually looks like when someone other than the founder has direct access to the firm’s data

For one customer using CMap Chat in early access, the heaviest user wasn't the founder. It was a new starter in a senior role, who used Chat to learn how the firm's own systems worked, rather than relying on training sessions or asking a colleague every time.

Tom describes digging into a spike in one client's chat usage expecting to find an unusual pattern, and instead finding exactly this: someone new to the organization treating the chat as their first point of call for understanding how the business actually operates, at their own pace, without waiting on anyone else's time.

Inside a boutique consulting firm, this is normally where a new senior hire either leans hard on a manager's time or works around gaps in their own understanding for months while they get up to speed. CMap Chat is designed to answer the "classic help question" instantly, pointing a user to the exact report or workflow relevant to what they're trying to do without anyone else in the firm needing to stop and explain it.

What makes this possible is that the knowledge being surfaced was never locked in one person's head to begin with. It was already sitting in the firm's operational data. CMap Chat’s job is just making that knowledge answerable on demand, to whoever in the firm asks the question.

"It was actually a new starter in a senior role that was really engaging with it, learning how to use CMap through the chat rather than the traditional methods."

Making that knowledge available to anyone in the firm only works if the person asking can genuinely trust what comes back, which is where the platform's approach to a firm's own data matters most.

Why should consulting firms use AI chat functionality that’s grounded in their data (rather than trained in it?)

CMap Chat answers questions using a firm's own live operational data, stored in the same secure environment as the rest of CMap, without that data ever being used to train a model.

Ben is direct about the distinction: "Your data isn't going anywhere. It's not training any models." The only thing CMap Chat learns is a set of explicit preferences a user chooses to give it. Things like a habit for tables over prose, which a user opts into rather than something that’s extracted from their data behind the scenes.

This matters day to day because it's the difference between a tool a firm can rely on for real decisions and one it can only use as a starting point to double-check elsewhere. A recommendation on which projects to prioritize this week, or where a revenue forecast is likely to land, is only useful if the person reading it trusts the number behind it came from their own firm's actual data… not a general model's best guess.

The recommendations CMap Chat gives are tied to margins, resourcing, and client billing rather than just one-size-fits-all advice. It’s advice based on deep knowledge of your data, not the kind of generic output available from a general-purpose AI tool.

"Your data isn't going anywhere. It's not training any models."

A firm's operations are the one part of the business that's genuinely universal, which is exactly why they're the right place for a shared platform, not a founder's own head or a patchwork of individual AI habits.

That's the foundation CMap Intelligence and CMap Chat are built on: doing the operational thinking a firm's whole team can rely on, so the firm's own people are free to spend their time and their own AI effort on the offering that's actually theirs.

Hello everybody. And welcome to today's webinar, where we're going to be introducing you to chat. It's a very important day. So I'm Tom.

I'm the product marketing manager here at CMAP. I've been with the company for around about fourteen years now. So I've seen lots of change and this really is a quite momentous day. I'm also joined in the studio by my colleague, Ben.

Hi, Tom. How's it going, Ben?

Really good. Thank you. Really good. Like you say, really important day and it's, quite a special day as well. So keen to keen to get started and dive right in.

Yeah. Well, we've got an awful lot to go through. So why don't we go through and, introduce everybody to see Matt Jatt?

Exactly. Right. What I just wanted to start with is just to say, I guess what we're hearing across the market, whether you're an architect, an engineer, or a consultancy firm, the AI pressure is real for everybody out there. And today it's going to be about one thing. It's CMAP Chat.

And CMAP Chat becoming your trusted advisor that's going to sit at the heart of your business. It's real product today. It's not just going to be slide where we are going to be showing CMAP Chat in action. And ultimately, just wanted to kick off with telling you what we're seeing in the market.

Now, the picture across the market, like I say, whether it's architects, engineer or consulting, everyone is now using AI. It's spreading like wildfire, whether your choice of tool is Copilot, Claude or ChatGPT, it's been used. A recent survey out there says seventy percent of firms were successfully adopting AI. A lot of that is individual contributors still, successful adoption, but really only six percent are seeing a measurable return of investment. So that's a lot of effort that's going in, but yet still little value, little outcomes. And today it's all gonna be about discussing how we can address that disconnect between the promise that AI offers, but the actual benefits that we're seeing across the market.

So remember those two key components and ultimately what we're hearing when we're talking and I'm hearing when we talk to our customers is AI is really altering business now in two key ways.

The first in terms of what your clients are expecting from you. They're questioning how you're using AI. Where are you using it? In some cases, even questioning that you shouldn't use AI at all, especially in proposals. We've heard about that, haven't we Tom?

But the pressure that they're now putting on you in terms of your fees, that pressure's real. They're demanding more, but for less, and wanting to know where you're using AI. And if you're not using AI, they want to know why. And if you are using it, like I say, they want some form of a discount.

And then especially at the early stages of your projects, putting that demand on you to say, well, could we do this ourselves? Could we at least use Claude? Could we use CoPilot to do that discovery phase in the first instance? And even if they're not doing that, Tom, saying they're going to do that just to again, put that pressure on your fees.

So that's what your clients are expecting from you. And then what's happening inside your business. Like I say, AI tools now are spreading like wildfire, aren't they? Hopefully with your blessing.

But have you got any of that shadow AI happening that potentially is going on without your blessing at the moment? What we are seeing, like I said before, AI is still really focused on the AI individual contributors. So helping you draft your responses to emails, helping you draft documentation.

But what's really holding back the wider whole scale changes, the process implementation that AI can help with process optimization, the security risks, the quality risks. Can you actually trust what the AI is coming back with? Is it giving you the source data?

And Tom, we've had a saying for a very long time here at Seamap, garbage in garbage out, but bad data, broken processes, they're not being fixed with AI. AI cannot fix a bad process. Can it Tom? No, exactly.

So hold those two sides in your mind. And ultimately it's those two sides, those two engines that are running your firm. It's your offering. Now that offering is your craft.

It's what your clients really value. It's what makes you special.

Only you can do this. It's your expertise. It's your IP. It's your methodology. It's your experience.

And then your second engine is your operations. It's the engine that keeps your firm moving, keeps powering that growth, everything from sales, ops, finance, HR, and more. Now, while your offering is special to you, your operations, Tom, that is the same the world over. It's universal. Good operations will look the same across the industry.

So only one of those engines is uniquely yours.

So the real gap that we're hearing in terms of about seventy percent that's adopted AI and those that are actually seeing the return of investment, actually seeing the benefits.

The difference there is really, are you focused enough? So where should you focus?

Focus your AI on your offering.

Only you can answer that. Point your AI at what your clients are truly gonna value. The answer is gonna be unique to you. Only you can answer this, Tom. It's what makes you, you ultimately.

Whereas we just said your operations, that's universal.

Let Seamap be the answer on AI for your operations.

This is what we're doing day in, out. We're working with over seven hundred firms to support them on their operations and apply AI to those. And what that'll do, Tom, it'll free up your people to then focus on your offering and apply your offering, apply AI to your offering. Because ultimately focusing there, that's where you can win.

Let CMAP Intelligence do the rest. So we launched CMAP Intelligence at the start of the year, Tom, and six months in, I'm really, really proud to say that we now have agents at every step of the project life cycle, everything from all the way from bidding, resourcing, billing, we're there. And we're not finished yet, but we'll cover a couple of the agents today, but there is more to come in the coming releases. But we always had one eye on the bull's eye, One eye on what would knit all of that together.

And that's CMAP chat. It's CMAP chat sitting across it all. It's giving you instant answers, giving you instant analysis so that you get your system, your operations are getting smarter with every project.

So, CMAC chat, ask, analyze, act.

You'll be able to ask CMAP questions, ask business questions, and get instant answers so you can make confident, informed decisions.

Analyze, you'll be able to analyze your reports and dashboards to get those key insights and even know where you need to dive deeper on. And finally, act.

Smart recommendations that help you act, know what to do next to help drive your business forward.

So this is AI that knows you, it knows your business, and it's going to help your team succeed by turning that data into action. So Tom, we're going to cover each of those in a bit more detail in a moment, but we wanted to showcase that, didn't we? And just dive straight in, I think.

We will do. Yeah, we'll dive in without any further ado and we will actually show you CMAP chat in action, just so you get a chance to see it. So here it is. We are, we've, the way, just for transparency, we are playing a recording here. What you're gonna see is C MAP chat. We're calling on it up in the top right, and we're going to ask it a question. So the first thing we're going to do is ask it, how much we're gonna be forecasting to invoice this month.

So that's just a simple question where it's gonna go away and start to interrogate our data. So you can see it's having a little bit of a think and there you go. It's come up with the answer. It's saying that we're going to have just over four million dollars to play with.

So that's in terms of being able to just ask and get a get a response. Now what we're doing is we're jumping into the report building tool where we're going to get some help with it to help analyze or build and analyze a report for us. So we're basically asking it to create a report that's gonna be showing us the last twelve months of invoicing by sector, per month. So that's just essentially describing a report that I want.

So when I hit the prompt, you can see intelligence is having a think. It's wondering how it should go away and start building that report. You can see it successfully done it. And if I click that link, I'm taken through to the built reports.

If you just close that out of the way, there it is. I've not had to start any of that from scratch. It's just built it all for me automatically.

So then in terms of act, well, here's that report now on our dashboard. So we can now use intelligence to say, well, here's the data. What what sort of learning should I take from it? What sort of analysis is there that I that I can then take away?

As you can see, it's now basically saying some from an insights perspective. You can see that banking has now become the dominant sector, and professional services seems to have gone into decline. And that from a suggested actions point of view, we need to really identify if there were some blips going on here. It's a bit bitty, but, and also really check the quality of the data, just like you pointed to a few minutes ago.

Exactly. So really, really powerful stuff there, Tom. I know we, it was a whistle stop tour as we're working through this. If anyone does have any questions, I think you can just put those in into the webinar and we'll be able to address those at the end as well. But like we say, that's CMAP Chart going right to the heart of CMAP Intelligence. It's CMAP Chart becoming your new trusted advisor that's gonna help keep your operations moving forward in this challenging time. And it's not just another tool in your growing tech stack either.

It's designed to be different to other AI tools.

It knows your firm, your quotes, your margins, your resource and your wins. It knows your industry and it ultimately is built for you. It's going to learn your business. It's going to make your next project better than the last. It's not just another tool, Tom, in your ever growing tech stack.

So like I said, we just wanted to dive in and talk about what CMAP Chart can do today. So going into a bit more detail of the ask, analyse and act. So ask, you'll be able to ask it instant questions on CMAP and get guidance on how to use the platform. So this is really important, Tom, because this is all about how do we get that adoption to be a lot quicker. So when you're a new user of SEMA app, how do you get up to speed really quickly? Well, you've got SEMA chat there on hand to help you.

Yeah, well, interestingly, I had an interview because I've been having interviews with customers that have been using this in early access beta. And there was one particular client that had asked a high volume of questions. And when we actually spoke and dug into it, it was actually a new starter in a senior role that was really engaging with it because they were learning how to use Seamap through the chat rather than the traditional methods of watching like their lessons and that sort of stuff.

So really powerful, but also for our CMAP admins. So we're really conscious that a lot of your end users, your team members will come to you for advice on how to use CMAP as the first point of call. Let's give you that time back because now they'll be able to just go to CMAP chat and ask.

And then in terms of report builder, Tom, there's always been two use cases ultimately in terms of how you build reports.

The first is when you ultimately just want an answer, how much are we invoiced this month? What's my forecast revenue next month?

Simple questions, but you needed to go essentially build a custom report, get the answer and then throw that report away and to lose it Exactly.

Weren't actually ultimately building a report. You were just getting an answer.

So if we just go back a size, because we're still talking through what chat can do. So that's given us the instant answers on your data. I'll come back to the second use case for report builder in a moment, Tom under analyze. But in terms of ask, we can also then ask it smart report recommendations. We can say like, what there's one hundred and fifty, one hundred and sixty odd like standard reports in CEMAP. I don't know how to use them all, Tom.

There wasn't a single person that knows them all.

Nobody knows them all off the top of their head. So how do we make that really easy? Well, ask chat, which report should I run? What should I look at in this scenario or that scenario?

Let CMAP chat recommend those reports to you. And ultimately, you do need to get help and support, then CMAC chat again is there to direct you to our CMAC support team. Just ask and it'll raise the support ticket on your behalf. So that's where we're at with ask, analyse, smart report creation.

That's our second real use case of report builder.

Firstly, that throwaway report that we spoke about a moment ago. But secondly, there are those times where I actually need a report as part of my business processes. I'm gonna run this report every week, every month, invoicing calendar, a weighted revenue forecast calendar, Tom. These are things I want to look at every week, every month.

So I'll go off and I'll build a report. Previously, I was starting from scratch. I was starting from a blank slate and there were over eight hundred, nine hundred fields in report builder, thirty odd report types. It can be quite overwhelming knowing where to start.

So why can chat not help you there? So we've embedded, like we saw, embedded chat in report builder. So it's the tool where you need it, when you need it. And it'll get you eighty, eighty five percent of the way there. You can still tweak that report, change certain fields, add custom calculations, add a dashboard. It will help you.

Exactly. Well, as you saw in that previous video, if you can describe quite, quite succinctly exactly what you want to see, it does a really good job of getting you to that eighty percent, sometimes even a hundred percent mark.

Really, really powerful. And then like we saw as well, analyzing those reports and dashboards. So where you built that custom report, where you built the custom dashboard, clicking on the sparkle, that's going to give us the insight. What should I be taking from that data? But more importantly, when we then think about ACT, what should I do next? What are those recommended next steps?

We'll come on a bit later in the webinar to talk about how we're gonna take ACT even further. But I think we saw a moment ago, just a few examples of each of those to bring it to life.

The first around acts of Tom, like we said there, this is examples of like specific business questions. What's my revenue forecast next month? But also like how to get the best out of CMAP. How many times have we had conversations about what's the impact of closing months with clients in SEMAT? So like just go into the chat when you're not sure, close in the, you don't know what you don't know about SEMAT.

Analyze, like we say, this is thinking about what reports show project profitability. Can I actually combine like different report types? That's always been a bit of feedback around report builder. You're not able to combine those report types. So again, let the chat help you there and show you the variance potentially between your revenue and invoicing. Just on that Tom, around combining report types.

Yeah, that is something that I think you're almost going a bit too early on that one. That's a nice little surprise.

We'll come back to that in our sub webinar, won't we? And then ultimately analyzing that dashboard, but really wanted to focus on those ACT examples.

This is where we start to get ahead of upcoming challenges, where we start to get ahead of issues before they materialise. What opportunities should I be focusing on? What do I need to do to improve the accuracy and the revenue forecast? Which projects, as a project manager should I pre prioritize in this week based on my tasks, based on my timelines?

And again, this isn't just generic advice that you can get from ChatGPT or Claude or anything like that.

This is advice based on deep knowledge of your data and exactly where you're up to in your maturity and everything like that.

Exactly. So like we say, that's where we start to get ahead of those upcoming challenges.

So Tom, let's hopefully now take a deeper look at chat. I think we'll go through each of those in turn, but also Tom, I think we're gonna take a look at some of the underlying intelligence agents as well.

Yeah. So we're gonna take a little bit of time to introduce you to some of the intelligence agents. We won't do all of them, but for some of them, they'll just be a natural kind of like jump off to, to take you through. So firstly, because again, that initial demo was quite quick, purposely quite quick. Let's have a look at how we can use CMAP to answer a kind of like just a classic help question in terms of how we use CMAP.

So again, so if we go and click CMAP chat up in the top right, we can start to type in a question. So this time we're going to ask what is the fastest way that we can submit an expense claim in CMAP? So once we've posed that question, it's gonna think and it's gonna come back with an answer. And as you can see in there, it's recommending that we use something called intelligent receipt uploads.

That's part of the delivery agent, one of our intelligence One of, I think it got called life changing Tom on our last webinar.

It is life changing.

That's why intelligent receipt upload in the web app, but also now in CMAP go as well.

Also in CMAP go of around about as of around about two weeks ago. Absolutely. Yeah.

So that's that. So what we'll do is we'll just basically just jump into Seamap so we can introduce you to that and show you that.

And some people will see this already, but let's just take a very quick look at intelligence expense Absolutely.

Because ultimately this is the functionality that sit underneath chat, isn't it? That chat's bringing this together.

Exactly. So chat's great at kind of like shining light on things, but the intelligence agents are there to help support the actual workflow You're looking to do. So here we are. We're in, an expense claim in SEMA.

So if we just click into a claim, we can now start to add items to it. So you'll see up along the top, you've got intelligent receipt upload. So I can click that button and I can now browse for my file, which has got my expense as my expense receipt. So once I've selected it and clicked that big blue button, what it will do is it will then put that receipt into the LLM.

So AI is now interpreting that it's determining what sort of receipt it is. And as you can see, it's even gone as far as entering a description. So this isn't OCR. This is way beyond OCR.

And I've just got my item added in seconds.

Amazing, Tom. But we're not just gonna stop there, are we?

We've got more to- Exactly, so we've covered help.

Let's now look at different scenario. So now why don't we use chats to help us understand what sorts of reports have we got available to us that will help me get to the next step. So here, we're to say that we've got a particular scenario. So this example is that we've got a project which is about to start.

We're going to need to have a particular set of, roles doing that, And I need to know who's going be available. So can you point me in the right direction of finding a suitable report for that? So again, this is going to then help guide me to one of those one hundred and eighty or so reports. No one knows all of them off by heart.

And as you can see, it's recommending a very specific report to us.

One that everybody will note on staff availability.

That's why we chose it make it quite easy for us to It's perhaps the most obvious recommendation if you're a CMAP user to the staff availability.

But what we will do though, is we will jump in and we'll look at another one of our intelligence agents. Resourcing intelligence. Resourcing intelligence, because this can take it a step further. So staff availability was all about basically saying, here's the answer to find out who's gonna be, who has capacity.

Based on availability. Exactly. But as you can see, when we come to use resourcing intelligence, which is all about proposing a project team for us, it can goes further. So as you can see, it's saying that I'm going to propose this person because they are available, but it's also saying, and by the way, they have relevant experience in this sector.

They've worked with this client before. This is the sort of margin that they'll be achieving. And over on the far right, you can see it's even arrived an intelligence score. So we can be confident that we're gonna selecting the best possible people for that job.

So for existing CMOP customers, that's on the resource schedule, click in the button in the top right corner. It's in the people planner now as well.

It's also in people planners. If you've got over allocations and you just need to move work around, it'll say, okay, if you're going to have to take somebody off this project, I recommend transferring it to this individual.

Really, really powerful functionality, Tom there. And then I think we're going to take a look at some of the actual instant answers now as well. Aren't we?

Absolutely. So this is going a little bit deeper in terms of just drilling down into your data in this specific example.

Cause you're not just going to ask a single question and then go on your merry way. You Tom? You can go on a journey.

You can go on a journey.

So if you click right in the top right, that'll open chat. So what we're doing is we're asking, how much have we been paid this quarter? So as you can see very quickly, it's come up and said it's just over two million dollars So we're gonna wanna go a little bit further and we're gonna say, okay, so how much have we invoiced this quarter that's currently outstanding for payments? So basically what's the age debt that we've got this quarter.

So this is going down just a level further into our data. So once I've finished the prompt and hit enter, you can see it's thinking and it's gonna go away. It's gonna cook that and it's gonna come back and give us the answer. As you can see, we've just got over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars there.

There was a handy little prompt. I don't know if you spotted that, but it suggested some prompts. One of those was to break it down by client. So that was quite useful.

So let's take a look at that. So as you can see, it's now prepared a table of data showing me the seven or so clients that are currently aged debtors with us.

And then again, we can go even further, even further and we can stay. Okay. So tell me which of these clients typically has taken the longest to pay their invoices in the last twelve months.

And again, just keep Any guesses, Tom? Who's it gonna be?

Well, it's gonna be health foundation.

Is it? It is. It always is. Isn't it?

Absolutely.

Awful. So as you can see, it's it's got to the answer. We scroll down. We've got another table of data and you can see that they're way ahead.

By far, aren't they?

One hundred and twenty two days late. Fantastic.

So as you can see, you can start interacting with the chat. You can ask it a question. You can think, oh, that's quite interesting. It will even give you prompts that might trigger you to go down a particular angle that you haven't considered. And you can really just start exploring and playing with your data. It's really good.

One thing though, that this would introduce you to is how the intelligence agents can then help when you're in the actual flow of using the product.

Cause one of the key things Tom, I think it came up at the user forum last year is with AI people using CMAP now are on users. CMAP chat is fantastic, isn't it? When you've got a question that you want answering, you've got the prompts there that are going to help you, but you don't always want to ask a question. You want the insights embedded where you need them, when you need them.

Yeah. Tell me at the right time, something I need to be aware of.

So I don't need to actually physically ask that question. And that's where billing intelligence comes Exactly.

So as you can see, we're in the invoicing page of a project with that customer health foundation. And as you can see over on the right hand side, C MAP is already aware of the payment behavior of this customer. And it's just alerting me to things that might alter the way that I'm gonna approach doing things with this customer in the future. EG try and make sure that I bill in advance as much as possible, that sort of stuff.

Really cool. Tom, seeing that instant answer capability. I think we've got one final example halfway. Yeah.

We've one final one where it jumps around through some different scenarios.

So with this one, we're going to start again by just asking you a question. So we're going to ask chat, which sector has essentially won the most value for us.

So we're going to type that in as a natural language question. As you can see, it's all just natural language prompts. It's going away and it's thinking about that. So it's doing cooking all the data behind the scenes. And it's basically saying that it's professional services and that's just under four and a half million dollars of revenue that we've bought in.

So next up, we're to say, okay, well, that's interesting. But what if we were then wanting to grow that sector by twenty percent next year? What sort of steps would you recommend? So this is then getting advice to act on the back of that. Exactly. So it's aware of all the context.

So as you can see, it's thinking about this. It's understanding where you're up to, and then it's putting some things towards you. So it's saying, well, firstly, you might wanna consider setting a sector revenue target. Then you might wanna consider creating a sector focused pipeline view. You want to make sure that you're forecasting revenue at the project level. You might also want to continue, consider doing attribution for the revenue across different sectors. And then finally you want to set up a sales pipeline review cadence to make sure that you're keeping on top of these things and measurement equals improvement and all that sort of good stuff.

Very helpful guidance there Tom.

Exactly. So then the final one is to then say, well, this is great advice. Could you then propose three report bill report builder reports that you would create for me? That's going to enable me to then actually achieve those targets.

So you can see it then having a think. It understands again, the full context to date, and it's proposing three reports to us.

So the first one is a report that's basically all around, ascertaining. Are we going to be on track to hit our target? The thing going to propose a second report, which is all about ensuring that we actually have enough opportunities in the pipeline.

And then it's also going to perform a propose third, which is around making sure that we can, we know when these opportunities are going to land and we understand if we're going to have any gaps. So super useful reports, they would be particularly useful. So we'll close by saying they sound great. Would you go ahead and actually just build me that first report, please?

So once you put the prompt in, you can see it will then go behind the scenes and it will do something that we've already seen where it just goes and actually builds that report for us in the report builder. So we've described a report. Well, it's described a report and we've said, yeah, we like the sound of that.

And we can jump in. And as you can see, that's not a blank page. It's already fully fleshed out. You can see all the fields being added, all the data's there.

So we can then publish that report and we can start to use it in anger.

If you wanted to change it, you can then change any fields. If you're not quite happy, let's say we want to move client to first row.

Oh, of course. Yeah. It's as if you've built it yourself, says fully editable. So as you can see, here's the report.

We've even gone as far as adding a chart in. And then again, this is where we can then use the, the intelligent analysis to then query that and say, well, what sorts of learnings should I take from looking at this report? So So as you can see from an insight perspective, it's saying that the values tend to be concentrated in a couple of key accounts and that we tend to kind of like be dependent on one project manager. So as a result, you might want to consider setting client targets to try and diversify that and also rebalance work to see if you can start to introduce it to more project managers and break that dependence.

Really powerful, Tom, isn't it? Really good. Yeah. Starting to see the benefits now of what chat can bring.

And it's, I think really great to see that flow in action, you know, starting with that business question, get the instant answer, but then starting to drill down further. So what are the suggested reports you would expect me to look at? Go often actually then see in chat, create those reports for me. And then like you say, using intelligent dashboards to then actually understand what I need to do to analyse that data and tell me what my next steps should be.

Yeah. And again, you've probably been thinking whilst you've been watching these about scenarios that you're working with at the moment and understanding how you could say, I want to get to here. How could I get there? What report should I have? How should I run them? How should I embed them in my teams? It can really, it can help guide you to that destination.

So we are on a journey with CMAP chat ultimately aren't we? And we are having a lot of feedback from clients that are already starting to use CMAP chat in that initial pool of release.

There's still a lot for us to do on chat and we'll come back to that in a moment, but it really is great to hear some of the feedback. Just got a few examples. We'll start blushing now, Tom, but some of the feedback that's come through on G2, you know, things such as like, it's really absolutely fantastic on CMAP chart, game changing, another great quote.

I think we made someone very happy because we had one just a few weeks ago about adding AI report building into CMAP, which we can tick off now, Tom, we've delivered that. But the really excellent quote for me and the one I'm most proud of is the top right. The fact that we're now allowing CMAP clients to focus on delivering quality for their clients, their customers, because that's the whole point of CMAP intelligence. That's what we were striving to do. Be the answer on AI for operations so that CMAP clients, you can focus on applying AI to your offering.

So ultimately we created CMAP Intelligence and CMAP Chat. So what's next for CMAP Chat? We said that we'd be honest and transparent where we're at. We're not done yet, Tom.

We are still in beta, early access program ongoing, which we'll come on to in a moment, but there is more for us to do. And I think we're about to see CMAP chat go to another level again over the next few months, if it hasn't already. So the key principle for us with all intelligence has been developing it with you, with our clients. And we'll come on to your feedback sessions that you've been having, Tom, but we've been listening, haven't we?

We've been hearing where we can improve. So five key things that we're working on at the moment. CMAP terminology. So at the moment, if you know CMAP, if you know how to use report builder, CMAP chat is there a hundred percent of the way with you.

But for end users that aren't necessary in CMAP enter like every day, like finance team members that may be going once a week, once a month. If you're talking in everyday terms that aren't necessarily CMAP terms, CMAP chat needs a bit of help, needs a bit of prompting.

So we are looking at how do we improve that translation? How do we enable you to roll this out more broadly onto point two to project managers that maybe won't know like the intricacies of CEMapper and Report Builder. The second is at the moment Report Builder is all or nothing. So while the help side of chat, you could roll out tomorrow because those security permissions would be respected.

Ultimately, want to give that reporting capability as wide as we possibly can. So we'll be looking at introducing more report builder capabilities on the permission side so that you can restrict that down to project managers or by office, for example.

Deeper sector expertise.

So when we are still thinking about those actions and how to act, what the next step should be, those recommendations, how do we make those sharper based on more aligned to the sector specialisms?

Faster responses as well. So we've sped up that video slightly, Tom, just for the purposes of the webinar today. How do we continue to make it as fast as streamlined in the live environment? So there's a number of things that we're working on, including having some pre built report recipes. So CMAT Chat doesn't need to go off and build that report in report builder every time from scratch. It in the same way that you will have a start of the ten when you're using CMAC Chat in Report Builder, why can we not give CMAC Chat that capability as well?

And finally, like we said before, how do we now take ACT even further? So really focused, really conscious and making sure that we always keep that human in the loop. But how does Nowchat go to that next level? How does it help you with time off? How does it help you with time sheets? How does it help you with expenses and so forth?

So what's next, Tom? So for existing customers, if you're already on CMAP and you'd like to register your interest to be part of the early access beta programme, please follow the link there, scan the QR code so that you can start to see much up in action. Like we said, it's still in beta. So if you'd rather wait for a couple of weeks, couple of months, that's entirely up to you.

As we continue to work on those things I just went through, but we're seeing a lot, like we said, a lot of great feedback on chat already. So if you're ready to dive in, please get in touch.

If you're new to CMAP and you want to find out more, maybe book a working session. Again, same link, but follow that, and we'll be more than happy to take you through it in more detail.

We will be taking questions shortly. I'm sure we've had a few coming through, but just a couple of dates for your diaries.

A bumper summer seasonal release, obviously, see my chat being part of that, Tom.

But rather than split the webinar up, hence because we're here and we've just talked about CMAC chat for the last forty minutes or so, we're just gonna do a bumper webinar on the thirteenth of August, where we're going take you through all of the upgrades that we make into the call. Some are already live. Some will be coming in the next few weeks and all of the upgrades that are coming to C Map Intelligence as well in a bit more detail than we've just done today. So lots of huge upgrades there and a lot more to come.

And finally, Tom, we are back.

We are live and in person.

We are back. It was a great event last year, the user forum, and we were really happy.

We secured the venue, it's bigger, it's better than ever before.

In terms of the agenda, the morning, we're going to be focused on the call.

All of the processes from bid to bill, how do we improve that for you and your users? The afternoon, that's all going be about CMAP Intelligence. How do we continue to take those agents, take the chat to the next level? What comes next? Like we've always said, we want the roadmap and how we improve a product to be a partnership with every single user.

Tom, we love these days don't we? And seeing the engagement it's fantastic.

Yeah. I mean, well, we'll quite happily take all the credit for the good ideas that go into CMAB, but they do ultimately really come from our customers. And the fact that we do actually sit and listen to you.

They really do. We do have QR codes on screen now though, Tom, because a word of warning, I think this has been out for less than a week and places are booking up very, very quickly. So please do go via your QR code. If you're on the consulting edition of CMAP, follow the one on the left, AUC, follow the one on my right, And please do request your place now and get registered.

I don't want you to miss out. If you're not sure what your edition is, you can go to the top left hand corner of CMAP, hover on the logo, and it will tell you. If you don't want to do that, just choose one at random. And I'm sure we'll be able to make sure you get the right date.

This is unfortunately just for C MAP customers. So if you're not on C MAP yet, get on C MAP before the eighth and ninth of September, and you'll be able to come join us at County Hall in London. Yep.

Finally, we are gonna take questions in a moment, but just a final thing from me, to say a massive thank you, I guess, to everybody that's back at HQ that's worked on this in particular. There's a huge team that's worked on this, but Ollie Wilde has done a enormous job at getting the chat to where it is today and leading the team. So, you know, a massive thank you to everybody in particular Ollie, but also to everybody that's been part of the early access beta programme so far, Tom. The amount of engagement, the amount of feedback and support we've had to continue to develop chat has been fantastic. And the engagement that we've had, it means so much to us. And I know, Tommy, you've had a number of interviews with clients and the feedback has been great.

Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah.

I think we are going to take a look at questions if we've had any, If I look and have a check.

So first question, does CMAP chat give results based on end user permissions? Absolutely. So CMAP chat is based on the permissions you have set in CMAP. So the first permission is whether you have access to CMAP chat at all.

So you may have some users, hopefully not many, that you don't want to have any access to CMAP chat. So that's the first permission. Once you give that permission, all the help side of CMAP chat. So getting report recommendations, getting help on how to use CMAP, how to adopt it, even raising support tickets, they'll be able, those users will be able to do that in the chat.

And then if you've got access to report builder, that's when you get all the added capabilities. So that's where those enhancements come through. Like we said, we are going to be adding more security permissions into report builder. So you'll be able to roll that report capability out more widely, let's say to your project managers.

You might not want them having full access to report builder, but you want them to be able to report on their projects that they're responsible for.

Is CMAP available, CMAP Intelligence, CMAP Chat available to everybody? So all CMAP Intelligence functionality, all CMAP Chat is being released in beta at this stage.

So everybody that is available and already on CMAP, please get in touch if you want to be part of that early access programme. The reporting capabilities, they work using report builder. So that will be for anybody on the pro and enterprise plan will need that level to be able to hook up CMAC chat during this beta phase.

Is it secure? Absolutely. So this is your data set in our Azure environment, to get a technical, but it's the same as the data, the features that sit within CMAP generally. Your data isn't going anywhere.

It's not training any models. The only training that happens is memories. And we didn't touch on this before, Tom. So if you want CMAC chat to remember things about you, for example, I always like my data, especially where there's more than one value from a report to be in a table.

Tell CMAC chat that. We're not making it complicated. It's simple by design. You tell CMAP chat, you want it to remember things.

It's going to tell, it's going to remember those things. If you thought when we were going through some of those examples, it's still a bit verbose, make it simpler. Tell CMAP chat, it'll remember it for you.

Will the chat agent be sensitive to security role? So like, I think we covered that one.

So I think we've got a dream scenario. Can we upload a meeting transcript from a resourcing discussion and paste it into chat and work with it to modify complex resourcing? So see my chat at this point is all about giving you insight, giving you analysis. You would be able to upload that transcript, copy and paste that transcript in. And it will start giving you insights based on what your data is in, in SEMAT. What it's not going to do is actually take those actions before you do the action and update your resource in, But more on that later, but I'd say that's that's where we want to focus next is how do we take ACT to the next level.

Sorry. Just trying to read some of these questions. So at the moment when downloading the timesheet report, some projects come up both on live projects and potential projects. Also with some internal codes, they appear both.

Is it possible to give instructions to assist with that? Absolutely. So we have trained the model and we have trained CMAP chat so that when you say, tell me about my projects, it tries to like prioritize live projects and applies those filters to the reports. But if you have a preference and you say, right, if I don't explicitly say live projects, like apply live projects filter to the report, for example, it can, again, it can remember that for you.

So if people don't have the chat button at the top right hand corner, what is that? As in like, do I get it? Like we said, at the moment it's still in this early access beta programme. Someone suggested, could we actually have a sign up to the beta flag, which is a great idea for now, unfortunately is you've got to go via that QR code and we might fire it up at the end just so and leave it on screen just so everybody has got that available.

We have three separate business entities within our CMAP. If I use one of the business names within my question, will CMAP chat be able to extract the information for just that one entity? Absolutely. It would apply that as a filter, especially if you can help it. And this is what we were saying before about, like, CMAP terms. So we will be improving this. But if you said office, for example, like apply, I'm looking for my Orlando office and show me the data for that, it'll apply the filter for the Orlando office.

Going forward, if you said Orlando projects, again, it should apply that office filter, but the more you help CMAP chat, the more likely it's going to get that right.

Will the AI agent work within the HR and CRM elements of a system? Absolutely. So this CMAP chat is gonna work across your entire CMAP dataset. So any of that data that you've got access to in report builder, will be able to use. So for example, a lot of HR fields are private fields. CMAP chat will respect that. So it's not going to be providing me that information if I don't have access.

Is this available now or is it still in beta? It is still in beta. Like we say, this is a partnership. It's going to be running in beta for a few more months because we want to continue this partnership working with you to improve it. If you don't have it, like we said, we'll fire up that QR code at the end of the webinar and we'll be able to get you signed up.

If your organisation is signed up to the beta programme and some people have it and you don't, that will be because you don't have the security permission. So it's right at the very top under security permissions, under system, you'll see CMAP chat. That's the one that you need to sign up to.

If we have CMAP PSA edition, should we book places for the AM or PM for the forum? Now, if you've got CMAP PSA, that's our CMAP consulting edition. You are coming for the full day. We're doing AM on the core of the Consulting Edition, PM CMAP Intelligence and how that applies to the Consulting Edition. The two days, one is for our architects and engineers and using our AC edition. One is for our consulting edition.

What's the plan for MSCPs and Copilot? Watch this space. So when we've been talking about CMAP intelligence more broadly, there are three levels. So we've got the agents that sit at the core of CMAP. We've then got the chat, which we're talking about today. And then the third level is the MCP and how we connect that to wider systems. So this is something that we're working on and we'll come back at a later webinar with more details on that.

Do you have to build the agents or we can do these ourselves? So we're building the agents because we're embedding them in the intelligence functionality that we've got, embedding them in the CMAP workflow. So taking care of that. It comes all back to what we started with today.

We'll let us focus on the operational AI so that you can focus on the service AI. Because I would say what we don't want to see is be back here in twelve months time, Tom, do the same survey, get the same results. And it's still that gap between seventy percent adoption of AI, but only six percent seeing the return of investment. If it was six.

We really want to make sure that we are providing that focus and providing the AI and being the answer on AI for operational AI, whereas then you can then focus on the services AI.

Has this session been recorded? Absolutely. So everybody that's joined today, if you signed up, you will get it. It will be in our CMAP academy as well by tomorrow morning, I'm told. So you'll be able to get that, share it more broadly with everybody.

Is the data being processed by the AI tool? So this is, like I said, it's staying within our Azure. There will be more FAQs available around what's happening to the data available on our website. And if you have got further questions, please do reach out to the support team. If you've got access to the CMAC chat, do it via CMAC chat, speak to your account manager. And like you say, we'll be more than happy to help.

And I'll take a breath, Tom. I think that sets a record for how many questions we've had on one of these webinars.

You can breathe.

I can breathe. I think we did very well getting through a bunch of those. Like I say, thank you so much to everybody for joining us today. It's a really important day.

See my chart, being my trusted advisor now that sits at the heart of organisations. It's a really important day because like we're fronting up, there are challenges out there. Like what we're seeing in the market around what AI is doing in terms of the demand from clients, impact of our internal services, you know, on our operations, it's real, it's here and AI isn't going anywhere. So how do we close that gap, Tom?

How do we close the gap between those that are seeing the benefits of AI and those that are just adopting it? And for us, that's all about focus. We'll focus with CMAP chat, keep improving it, work on it day in, day out. So it's the right tool for you.

And then that should hopefully free you up to think about how to apply AI to your services going forward.

Thank you so much, Tom.

Thank you for listening for a lot of And yeah, we will be back in a few weeks time and hopefully we can, if we will leave on screen just for a few moments, the sign up page for early access and to find out more.

And hopefully you'll join us at the next webinar.

Thank you very much everybody.
